The image is a sort of composite of the elvers who are seasonally semi-camped out by the Medomak River across the street from my house. The Eel Fishery is the most lucrative in Maine, with a pound of Glass Eels usually fetching more than a thousand dollars a pound. The elvers go with the tides, and often fish multiple rivers. They’re a hardworking bunch and sport some great outfits. They’re in and out of the shallow headwaters of the estuary in very early spring. You may see some more of these in the future.
