Fall on Monhegan and Manana, 10/08/22

$250.00

The painting is 12”x 8.5”, ink, watercolor and gouache on 140lb Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper.

From my first trip out to Monhegan Island with some good friends, and yes, it’s as lovely as they say. It was clear crisp day, and I recall I shot the original photo this was painted from around noon before lunch after a hike out to the cliffs. This spot is a popular lookout - I don’t doubt that many folks who have visited have stood right where I was. For the uninitiated, the island just off shore is Manana Island - at this point it’s uninhabited besides some sheep.

The process of the painting is an underpainting created with a “gouache ink resist” underpainting, with gouache on top. If you’re interested in the process, I did more of a full documentation here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CIV9DNqDUaX/.
